to Our BIPOC Community

There is much work to be done…

We are listening. We are with you. We will improve.

As an arts organization, we acknowledge that our company, as well as the greater arts community, has much work to be done with regard to inclusion of BIPOC artists. As artists we have a unique responsibility to open conversations within our society that have the potential to create lasting and needed change. Our mission has always been to produce work that gives voice to those too often silenced; we realize now that we have fallen short. It is time for us to alter our policies, transform our company, and create a safe space for all artists and audiences.

Below you will find a list of commitments that we at San Jose Stage have created as a jumping off point towards inclusivity. Please note that this is a living list; it will be ever-evolving as needed changes are brought to our attention. On that note please feel free to reach out to us below with any suggestions, comments, or perspectives about San Jose Stage. Should you feel comfortable leaving your name and email please do so but know that it is not required.

Commitment to Change and Inclusion

In an effort to make lasting change in support of the BIPOC community we at San Jose Stage commit to the following:

  • The Stage will continue to amplify the voices of POC through our work

  • The Stage implements an open forum for BIPOC artists to share their perspective for our collective growth and learning

  • The Stage will continue to strive for more diversity in our casting to include more BIPOC artists within our community and beyond

  • The Stage holds space for the necessary conversations surrounding injustice to further build and strengthen our community

  • The Stage will continue to implement new policies to place more BIPOC on our staff and board so that underserved voices are not only heard but have a seat at the table

  • The Stage will continue to revise our policies and procedures through anti-racism lenses to better serve our community

  • The Stage will continue to promote the stories of BIPOC 

  • The Stage will continue to uphold our safe work-space and implement our zero-tolerance policy against discrimination, harassment, and oppression.  Taking action when necessary.

  • The Stage will continue to share the tools necessary for growth and learning with our audience.
